ExEL: Experiential Education and Learning

Gaining diverse, meaningful experiences as an NSU student might be the most valuable part of your college education.

Through Experiential Education and Learning (ExEL) at NSU, you will be exposed to a world of hands-on opportunities that enrich your academic life while helping you reach your professional and personal goals. As part of ExEL, you can choose to conduct research with a faculty mentor, enroll in courses that take you far beyond the classroom, test drive your future career with an internship, give back to your community as a volunteer, or earn credits while studying and exploring abroad.

NSU provides a wonderful opportunity for you to get to know and conduct research with your faculty members, who are experts and leaders in their fields. Participating in research will improve your critical thinking skills and better prepare you for graduate school and beyond. You'll gain a deeper connection with your studies and the process of discovery. Faculty-mentored research opportunities can be explored in any major and within your areas of interest.

Speak with your faculty members to discuss how you can get involved with research that fits your interests and the ExEL requirements.

What can you do with your research findings?

At NSU, your coursework will take you beyond the lecture hall and into STEM labs, the field, and performing and visual art studios and theatres, as well as our student media tv station, radio station, and newspaper. While you're engaging in hands-on learning and diving deeper into your major, these classes may count toward your ExEL requirements.

Speak with your academic advisor to identify applicable experiential coursework that matches your interests and degree program.
